This was a great read! Interesting character and plot development made it impossible to stop reading. The story was a perfect balance of real-life ER medicine combined with detective mystery and intrigue. Many of the supporting characters were well developed and I found myself wanting to know more about them. I especially loved Dr. Valorian's character and am hoping to get to know her even better and that she will be solving more medical mysteries in the near future!Product details

I enjoyed this book very much. The characters were believable and the plot, with a few twists, added to the excitement of the story. A very clean book I would recommend to any mystery lover.
Well-written medical thriller (Dr. Gossington obviously knows his way around an E.R.!) I enjoyed all the twists. I also appreciated the lack of explicit sex. Looking forward to reading more from this talented writer.
The mystery book had a good story line, the characters were a bit too much, not the proficient professional men and women you would expect for medical personnel but entertaining. The writing was too simplistic in places, but in others it was well done and realistic. I liked that the murderer wasn't too obvious and was a challenge to figure out. I voluntarily agreed to read and write a review of a copy of this book, not realizing I had already purchased this book but had not read it yet.
I started this book by accident. I was trying to open something else, but got this one instead; I'm really glad that happened. I was hooked from the first page. The story and character development are first rate. There were a few word errors that threw me off at times, but for the most part, editing did an ok job. The ending needed some work, I got bored in the last 10 or so pages with all the wrap-up stuff, and just wanted it to hurry along; however, even with that, this book is totally worth reading and I recommend it to everyone who loves a good 'who dunnit'. It really kept me guessing until the big reveal!
I enjoyed this book and would read another if this becomes a series. There were some parts of the story that were not believable but I just accepted it for what it was. Dr Laura Valorian works in the ER and is haunted by a child that she sent back home to an abusive situation. She vows never to allow this happen again. This is an underlying situation that allows us insight into the doctor’s character. The main story revolves around another physician who’s death looks more like murder than a heart issue. Dr. Laura just can’t get past the circumstance and condition of the physician’s body. She connects and works with a former policeman, now PI, Alec Dupree. With the help of a police friend, Laura and Alec solve the murder. The underlying stories set up in this book seems to point to a nice series about Dr Laura and her move into forensic medicine.

Decent storyline, but the characters were a bit ridiculous and the writing pretty cheesy. I'd skip it unless it's free. The author doesn't know much about real-life hospital or night shift work, he was way off base with pretty much all of it. It also got pretty cluttered with several mysteries rolled into one story. Awkward book, could be much better with better editing and clarified storyline.
Several random early chapters were in the POV of characters other than Dr. Valorian. Their ‘out of the blue’ appearance broke up the flow of the story just as I was settling in with the main character. The continued appearance of those other POV chapters later in the book – especially when the POV character was one who had not had his or her ‘own’ chapter before – was equally jarring.
Some writing was on the ‘See Spot. See Spot run. Run, Spot, Run.’ level. And Gossington wasted too many words describing furnishings in every room. Do we really need to know the color and pattern of upholstery on every chair and the contents of every picture in every room?
Gossington also plays tour guide – 'They took This Street past This Place to That Street past That Park to That Other Place.' – every time he has his characters going any place. People familiar with Washington, DC, don’t need that information because they already know it. And for people who have never been to DC (like me), the information doesn’t mean anything unless I’m following their travels on a map – and I have no desire or intention to do that. So, he could have dropped all of that, just told us where the characters were going.
Gossington has two main storylines running through this novel. Too often an author will shortchange one or the other along the way, but Gossington does a good job of developing both equally throughout the book. He did have one twist near the end, however, that was a thorough surprise because he established no basis for it earlier in the book.
Gossington also did something too few authors do these days He didn’t have his two main characters fall into bed almost immediately. He is showing them in a growing relationship.
