There is nothing wrong with the writing of these novels. I say this after reading part of volume one of the five, so beware.
The problem is that the books were written quite early in the last century. The style is somewhat ancient and stiff. If you enjoy mid-20th and 21 century crime novels, you're not going to want to read a style that was born before most of us. Unless you are young enough to be unable to figure out the main character, Fantomas. Consider that a clue to what you will find if you are willing to remove your blindfold. Or graduate elementary school.
But if you are a scholar of crime literature, or a fan of (may I say) ancient crime novels, get to it. It is somewhat obvious who, or maybe what, is Fantomas. That's a real clue to a mysterious criminal. I can almost hear him snickering as I write. Wait... I think I heard the French window opening....
Fan Tomas had always been sort of a question mark,but reading these books is a complete and pleasant surprise.
Really enjoyed the books.
I recommend them for people interested in learning about the customs at the beginning of XX Century.
