Using a raised bed is a great way to get started with growing a vegetable garden. But if you’re just getting started, the question is how to build a raised garden bed?

This book answers the question by providing a variety of methods for constructing a raised garden bed. Written by a veteran urban gardener, the book shares many tips about raised bed gardening, such as
*constructing attractive front yard vegetable garden beds;
*how to build raised beds with a tight budget;
*shaping a bed that fits more plants per linear foot than the usual rectangular bed; and even
*creating a bed that will self-water and self-fertilize.

From describing the benefits of raised beds, to illustrating efficient ways to design your plantings – including a variety of ways to incorporate vertical supports – this book (50+ pages) about how to build raised beds shows you how to grow vegetables in the most space-, time- and money-saving ways possible.

The Ultimate Guide To Raised Beds edition by Emily Josephine Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks

Emily Josephine’s book on raised beds is a good guide for those folks new to gardening. It will give you enough information to get you started, though additional research will be necessary to increase your knowledge (for instance, while she talks about the benefits of composting, there are few details of how to best accomplish this). Throughout the book, Ms. Josephine provides links to Internet sites with more information. Though one of the first links didn’t work (it appears the site author changed what was being presented, which can happen), all of the other links worked just fine.

Experienced gardeners will not find much new information here. Much of what is presented has been cobbled together from other books, which the author conveniently links. Those links are one of the benefits of this book, as when you find something that interests you or applies to your gardening situation, an additional resource that goes more in depth is only a click or a purchase away.

Overall, a good gardening overview that will get new gardeners started and pointed in the direction of additional knowledge. Four stars.

The Ultimate Guide To Raised Beds edition by Emily Josephine Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews

I learned a lot from this author and hope to put it to good use in my gardens. This story was free for , which is how I came to read it. I enjoyed the read and thank the author for her generosity.
Really handy little book. My son used it as well to make his raised beds at the townhouse he lives in. I have beds at my house too. Nice explanations on how to plant and what to plant where in condensed spaces.
I've been reading so many gardening books that they are all starting to sound the same and even give the same web referencing sites. In any case, this one is good reference about when to plant, what plant goes with other plants. Plant brought, plant spread. Herbs and flowers to grew to dis courageous pests.
Basic enough for beginners, enough variety for more experienced gardeners.
What a great book. Filled with ideas and helpful tips. I just purchased a home with 7 raised beds and can't wait to start using them. Hoped this book would be a good guide for me and I think it will help! This book was a free edition book that was purchased at a discount for my honest review.
The Ultimate Guide To Raised Beds
We have one in the backyard and will probably create another as they are a lot easier to weed through and harvest.
Starts out with what a raised bed garden is and moves on to the benefits. Shows examples of gardens they've done.
Other kinds of beds are also shown. Discussion on borders around the garden and the choices available.
Lots of resources are linkable and so much information to make it easy for anybody to grow a garden.
I have found a lot of information in this little e-book. There are many ideas that I have used over the years, but I'd not previously heard of the Hugelkultur method, which is interesting to me as we have a lot of downed trees on our property. I'm familiar with wood-edge bed method, which is most of our present garden, and have used some form of lasagna gardening in the past. I also employ a lot of vertical gardening and companion planting. So I'm very familiar with many of the methods described, and eager to learn as much as I can from a veteran gardener.

The only complaint I have with the book is that Chapter 8 is titled "Watering and Fertilizing and Mulching, Oh My!" and that cost the book the 5th star, as I despise ANY title that includes "..., Oh My!". But that's the breaks, I guess. I'll still read the chapter, trite as the title may be. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking to increase their gardening knowledge and it will make great off-season study and reading.
